1-Amino-8-nitropyrene (1,8-ANP), a product of 1,8-dinitropyrene metabolism by either bacterial or mammalian enzymes, is weakly mutagenic to the 'classical nitroreductase'-deficient Salmonella tester strain TA98NR.
