Myo-inositol oxygenase (MIOX) is the first and rate-limiting enzyme in myo-inositol (MI) metabolism pathway. The increase in MIOX enzyme activity is in proportion to serum glucose concentrations and may be responsible for the MI depletion found in the diabetic complications.
