Epidemiological evidence has demonstrated a strong relationship between cigarette smoking and coronary artery disease (CAD). Cytochrome P450 1A1 (CYP1A1) is a key enzyme that metabolizes the cigarette toxin relevant to smoking-induced atherogenesis.
