Uncoupling protein 3 (UCP3) is a mitochondrial transporter protein which, when over-expressed in mice, is associated with increased metabolic rate, increased feeding and low body weight. This phenotype probably reflects the increased levels of UCP3 partially uncoupling mitochondrial respiration from cellular ATP demands.
