Mutations in the progranulin (PGRN) gene have been recently demonstrated as a cause of frontotemporal lobar degeneration (FTLD) with ubiquitin-immunoreactive neuronal inclusion (FTD-U). Neuropathologic, clinical, and neuroimaging features associated with PGRN mutations have been carefully described.
