Human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) viral chemokine, UL146, and TNF alpha-like receptor UL144 genes show a high degree of hypervariability in clinical isolates. These proteins are predicted to be immune modulators and may contribute to the pathogenesis of HCMV infections.
