Haloalcohol dehalogenase HheC catalyzes the reversible dehalogenation of vicinal haloalcohols to form epoxides and free halides. In addition, HheC is able to catalyze the irreversible and highly regioselective ring-opening of epoxides with nonhalide nucleophiles, such as CN (-) and N 3 (-).
