Numerous membrane glycoproteins of Saccharomyces cerevisiae are posttranslationally modified by the addition of a glycophosphatidylinositol (GPI). These proteins can be detected most easily by metabolic labelling of yeast cells with 3H-myoinositol or 3H-palmitate.
