Tetrahydropapaveroline (THP), a dopaminergic isoquinoline neurotoxin, has been reported to contribute to neurodegeneration in parkinsonism. As THP bears two catechol moieties, it undergoes autooxidation or enzymatic oxidation to produce reactive oxygen species (ROS), which may contribute to the THP-induced cell death.
