The lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2) metabolizes oxidized phospholipids, generating lysophosphatidylcholine. The activity of the enzyme is known to be influenced largely by a single-nucleotide polymorphism, G994T, in the Lp-PLA2 gene.
