Cytomegaloviruses are known to encode several gene products that function to subvert MHC-dependent immune recognition. Here we characterize a rat cytomegalovirus (RCMV) C-type lectin-like (RCTL) gene product with homology to the Clr ligands for the NKR-P1 receptors.
