Cellular responses to DNA damage involve the relocalization of checkpoint proteins to DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs). The fission yeast checkpoint mediator protein Crb2, a homolog of mammalian 53BP1, forms ionizing radiation-induced nuclear foci (IRIF).
