BACKGROUND: Mycophenolic acid (MPA), an effective immunosuppressive drug used in renal transplantation, is extensively glucuronidated by several uridine diphosphate-glucuronosyltransferases (UGTs) into an inactive 7-O-glucuronide and, to a lesser extent, into a pharmacologically active acyl-glucuronide.
