Transcription factor nuclear factor-kappaB (NF-kappaB) is held in the cytoplasm in an inactive state by IkappaB inhibitors. Oncogenic activation of NF-kappaB is achieved by stimulus-induced ubiquitination and subsequent proteasome-mediated degradation of IkappaBalpha.
