Toll-like receptor-4 (TLR4) is a pattern-recognition receptor not only for exogenous ligands such as lipopolysaccharide (LPS) of Gram-negative bacteria, but also for endogenous ligands such as fibronectin, heat shock proteins and hyaluronan oligosaccharides.
