OBJECTIVES: Catechol-O-methyltransferase plays a central role in the metabolism of biogenic amines such as norepinephrine, dopamine and serotonin. Functional studies have demonstrated a dose relationship between ValMet genotypes and catechol-O-methyltransferase activity.
