OBJECTIVE: In Tabby mice, the Ta (EDA) gene is mutated. The resulting syndrome is homologous to hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia in humans. The Tabby phenotype is characterized by developmental defects of ectodermally derived structures. The teeth show aberrations in number, size and morphology.
