Plucked (pk) is an autosomal recessive mouse mutation with a hair phenotype that arose spontaneously in the DBA/2J strain. Histological studies indicate that adult pk mutant mice lose truncal hair because of the scarring of follicles due to an apparent obstruction of the outward movement of the hair shaft within the follicular canal.
