H(2)O(2) is a crucial substrate of thyroproxidase (TPO) to iodinate thyroglobulin and synthesize thyroid hormones in thyroid. ThOX proteins (thyroid oxidase) also called Duox are believed to be responsible for H(2)O(2) generation.
