The molybdenum cofactor (Moco) is part of the active site of all molybdenum (Mo)-dependent enzymes, except nitrogenase. Moco consists of molybdopterin (MPT), a phosphorylated pyranopterin with an enedithiolate coordinating Mo and it is synthesized by an evolutionary old multistep pathway.
