BACKGROUND: IL-8 is a strong inductor of inflammation. Accordingly, it plays a pivotal role in acute inflammatory responses during respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infections and in chronic inflammatory diseases such as bronchial asthma and juvenile idiopathic arthritis.
