Previous studies (Beechey, 2000) have shown that mouse proximal chromosome (Chr) 6 has two imprinting regions. An early embryonic lethality is associated with two maternal copies of the more proximal imprinting region, while mice with two maternal copies of the sub-proximal imprinting region are growth retarded at birth, the weight reduction remaining similar to adulthood.
