In the mutasynthetic approach, the DeltadpgA mutant of the vancomycin-type glycopeptide antibiotic producer Amycolatopsis balhimycina, which is deficient in the synthesis of 3,5-dihydroxyphenylglycine (DPg), was supplemented with synthetic DPg analogues to obtain the corresponding modified glycopeptides.
