We detected a significant excess risk for CHEK2*1100delC mutation carriers to develop a contralateral breast tumor, OR = 6.5 (95% CI 1.5-28.8, p = 0.005). The highest percentage of mutation carriers was detected among those bilateral breast cancer patients who had received radiation treatment for their first breast tumor.
