The gene URA6 encoding uridylate kinase (UK) from Saccharomyces cerevisiae was isolated as a multicopy suppressor of the respiratory-deficient phenotype of an S. cerevisiae mutant defective in the gene AKY2 encoding AMP kinase (AK).
