Gallbladder epithelial cells (GBEC) are exposed to high and fluctuating concentrations of biliary cholesterol on their apical (AP) surface. GBEC absorb and efflux cholesterol, but the mechanisms of cholesterol uptake, intracellular trafficking, and efflux in these cells are not known.
