The aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) is a member of the basic helix loop helix PAS (Per-ARNT-SIM) transcription family, which also includes hypoxiainducible factor-1alpha (HIF-1alpha) and its common dimerization partner AhR nuclear translocator (ARNT).
