Biochemical and genetic studies implicate synaptotagmin (Syt 1) as a Ca2+ sensor for neuronal and neuroendocrine neurosecretion. Calcium binding to Syt 1 occurs through two cytoplasmic repeats termed the C2A and C2B domains.
