The macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) is a cytokine that shares a common structural architecture and catalytic strategy with three isomerases: 4-oxalocrotonate tautomerase, 5-carboxymethyl-2-hydroxymuconate isomerase, and D-dopachrome tautomerase.
