Yarrowia lipolytica is a yeast which can utilize n-alkane as a sole carbon source. We isolated a Y. lipolytica peroxisomal acetoacetyl-CoA thiolase gene, PAT1, by complementation of a mutant that cannot utilize n-decane as a sole carbon source.
