The herpes simplex virus thymidine kinase gene type 1 (HSV-Tk) ganciclovir (GCV) system is a novel therapeutic strategy for the modulation of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), a major complication of allogeneic stem cell transplantation (allo-SCT).
