We have isolated a hyperrecombinogenic Nicotiana tabacum mutant. The mutation, Hyrec, is dominant and segregates in a Mendelian fashion. In the mutant, the level of mitotic recombination between homologous chromosomes is increased by more than three orders of magnitude.
