AIMS/HYPOTHESIS: Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis is frequent in Type II (non-insulin-dependent) diabetes mellitus and can lead to fibrosis and cirrhosis. The interindividual variability in the occurrence of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis suggests, however, a genetic modulation.
