Abstract excerpt
Perinatally, oocytes within the mouse ovary become surrounded by a layer of flattened granulosa cells and form primordial follicles. The subsequent accretion of the zona pellucida between the oocytes and granulosa cells provides a biochemical marker of folliculogenesis.
