<h4>ABSTRACT</h4> GABA (γ-aminobutyric acid) is the primary inhibitory neurotransmitter in the CNS. In astrocytes, GABA is synthesized by degradation of putrescine by monoamine oxidase B (MAO-B), a process which is known to mediate tonic inhibition of neuronal excitability.
