Mutations in the TAFAZZIN gene result in the X-linked genetic disease Barth Syndrome. The protein product tafazzin is a transacylase enzyme that remodels the phospholipid cardiolipin with fatty acids. Some Barth syndrome boys exhibit a lean phenotype.
