Forty-one Lactobacillus helveticus strains were isolated from Bulgarian yoghurt, cheese wheys, plants and human faecal samples. The potential of sodium dodecilsulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS PAGE) of cell-wall proteins and of ribotyping to subtype the strains was tested.
