Cheetahs (Acinonyx jubatus) are a textbook example of how habitat loss, human-wildlife conflicts and historic bottlenecks depleted genetic variability, both genome-wide and at the major histocompatibility complex (MHC), which plays an integral role in the adaptive immune response.
