Plasmodium vivax invasion of human erythrocytes depends on the Duffy Binding Protein ( PvDBP ) which interacts with the Duffy antigen. PvDBP copy number varies between P. vivax isolates, but the prevalence of PvDBP multiplications in Sub-Saharan Africa and its impact are unknown.
