Ras proteins are crucial for the regulation of cellular proliferation, differentiation, and survival. These small GTPases act as a binary on/off switch, which reversibly binds to GTP or GDP, respectively. In humans, there are four Ras isoforms: KRAS4A, KRAS4B, HRAS and NRAS.
