A blood pressure quantitative trait locus was found (LOD = 5.0) on rat chromosome 9 using a large F2 population (N = 233) derived from Dahl salt-sensitive (S) and Dahl salt-resistant (R) rats. The F2 rats were fed 8% NaCl diet for 8 weeks. A congenic strain introgressing the R low-blood-pressure QTL allele on chromosome 9 into the S strain was constructed.
