Clinically nonfunctioning pituitary adenomas constitute about one third of pituitary neoplasms and are considered monoclonal tumors. The molecular mechanisms of tumorigenesis in these neoplasms are poorly understood, as evidenced by the paucity of reported somatic genetic alterations.
