Aspergillus fumigatus produces an 82 kDa intracellular metalloproteinase that hydrolyses the Pz-peptide, 4-phenylazobenzyloxycarbonyl-Pro-Leu-Gly-Pro-Arg, a typical substrate of members of the thimet oligopeptidase family which is ubiquitously distributed across animal species.
