Most patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) express HLA-DR4, HLA-DR1, or HLA-DR10. The DRB1 chains of these alleles have highly homologous 3rd hypervariable regions, with the motifs QKRAA, QRRAA, or RRRAA.
