The vacuolar protein aminopeptidase I (API) uses a novel cytoplasm-to-vacuole targeting (Cvt) pathway. Complementation analysis of yeast mutants defective for cytoplasm-to-vacuole protein targeting (cvt) and autophagy (apg) revealed seven overlapping complementation groups between these two sets of mutants.
