In the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, aminopeptidase I (API), a vacuolar hydrolase, is selectively transported to the vacuole via the autophagosome. API forms a cytosol to vacuole targeting (Cvt) complex in the cytoplasm. The complex is engulfed by the autophagosome under starvation conditions.
