A cyclic pathway between phosphoenolpyruvate and oxaloacetate was created in Escherichia coli by simultaneous overexpression of phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase (encoded by pck) and phosphoenopyruvate carboxylase (encoded by ppc) from a multicopy plasmid under the control of the tac promoter.
