Wild-type Vibrio cholerae cells, when adapted by a stepwise treatment with sub-lethal concentrations of N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine (MNNG), acquired resistance to killing and mutagenesis by subsequent challenges with higher concentrations of MNNG.
