Under certain conditions, Escherichia coli cells exhibit either of two altered modes of chromosomal DNA replication. These are inducible stable DNA replication (iSDR), seen in SOS-induced cells, and constitutive stable DNA replication (cSDR), seen in rnhA mutants.
