The sensitivities of 8 R-factor plasmid pKM101-mediated E. coli strains with different DNA-repairing capacities to UV, AF-2 and MMS were investigated. The clear protective effect of pKM101 to lethal damage induced by these agents was only seen in the recA+ lexA+ and the uvr- lex- strains.
